Treatment for Prostate Cancer

INTRODUCTION: Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that affects the prostate gland in men. Treatment for prostate cancer may involve a variety of approaches, including surgery, radiation therapy, and medications. In this script, we will be discussing the medications that are commonly used in the treatment of prostate cancer. HORMONE THERAPY: Hormone therapy is a common treatment for prostate cancer. It works by lowering the levels of male hormones, such as testosterone, that can promote the growth of prostate cancer cells. Medications used in hormone therapy include: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists:   These medications work by blocking the production of testosterone. Examples of GnRH agonists include leuprolide (Lupron) and goserelin (Zoladex). Anti-androgens: These medications work by blocking the action of testosterone on prostate cancer cells.
